Exhibition Concept:
Over the past twenty-some years, she has moved more than thirty times…
Drifting between different countries and over a dozen cities—her surroundings constantly changed, yet certain things always stayed with her.
Objects light in weight but heavy with memory: a journal covered in stickers, a dog-eared collection of essays, a cassette player that rewinds the same songs, and an old laptop whose glow never quite goes out… Together, they built for her one “foldable room” after another.
Wherever she landed, as long as these objects were there, even the strangest city would start to feel a little familiar—as if reminding her: You are still you. You have not vanished in all this moving.
Painter BONi creates in the subtle spaces between objects and memory.
She captures a woman’s gaze in moments of solitude, fleeting light, and those nearly forgotten instants that still shine quietly in her notes—piecing them together into a vocabulary of memory that is uniquely her own.
“Asobi”—in Japanese, it means “play,” while in Taiwanese it suggests “a gap” or “a bit of space.”
It is, in essence, a way of living: finding a small looseness, a pocket of breath, somewhere between solitude and constant migration.
This is a light, intimate memoir of “memory,” recording those seemingly insignificant details of daily life that carry the weight and depth of time.
In this not-so-cold Taipei winter,
you are invited to step into these rooms
and feel the memories preserved tenderly under her brush.
