Exhibition Concept:
Kemono – originates from the perception and depiction of soft, fine textures, beginning with an intense focus on and fascination with the act of drawing hair. Through the repeated rendering of hair-like, minute textures, sensations of softness, delicacy, and warmth gradually accumulate within the pictorial surface, transforming into a presence that exists between form and sensation. Hair, as a soft and fluid material, creates tension when placed in contrast with the cold rigidity of metallic media. This material contrast allows the works to engage in a dialogue on a physical level, while also responding to the structural qualities, traces of time, and historical weight embedded in the exhibition space. The paintings are no longer merely displayed, but find their appropriate positions within the site, forming resonances with the surrounding environment.

The sense of adhesion and stickiness associated with hair also serves as a metaphor for the pressures of everyday life that are difficult to shake off—like fine particles clinging to the body—reminding the artist of the responsibilities and burdens carried throughout the creative process and within social roles. These subtle and fragmented perceptions are not only depictions of materiality, but also reflections of individual sensations and psychological states.

Through the meticulous rendering of hair, the choice of materials, and the intervention of the historic site Yuanshan Villa, this body of work seeks to establish a balance between softness and solidity, immediate sensory perception and historical time, bodily experience and psychological burden. In doing so, Kemono is allowed to generate its own distinctive states and experiences within this particular place.
