Exhibition Concept:
Suniao and Friends is a collaborative exhibition initiated by the brand "Suniao", inviting a group of artists connected through their artistic practices and life contexts to collectively present a creative journey interwoven between the individual and the collective, creation and daily life.
The exhibition takes "the daily production of artists" as its curatorial theme, focusing on the relationship between creation and commodity, exploring how artists sustain their unique contexts in everyday life, developing a mode of production that balances both artistic integrity and commercial viability. These works are not only the outcomes of artistic practice but also resonate with one another in their distinct forms and rhythms, forming a dialogue about the connections between creators and the interrelationships among their works.
Each participating artist has their own independent sub-brand or creative identity. At times, we are artists; at other times, we represent brands or take on various production roles as work demands. In an era of rapid role-switching, the constant flux of states and mindsets makes maintaining connections challenging. Yet, it is this fluidity that allows each encounter to reveal different facets of one another at various stages.
Each artwork is like a plant, a breeze, or a bird’s song—self-contained in its rhythm yet echoing with others. The exhibition encompasses diverse media, including sculpture, ceramics, video, painting, and installation, offering individual proposals about creative and lifestyle practices. These proposals may directly engage with reality or serve as an escape from and reimagination of it.
Suniao and Friends is not only an artistic dialogue but also a proposition for living, and above all, a long-overdue greeting and reunion among friends.
