Exhibition Concept:
This is a “minor incident” that took place inside a Japanese–Western eclectic wooden house.

The Western-style mansion is usually closed off—a forgotten old residence. Inside, filled with the scent of hinoki cypress, various living creatures have taken over: salamanders, cormorants, stream fish, and more. One day, something unusual occurs—the drain stopper of the bathtub in the master bedroom on the second floor is mysteriously removed. The vividly red betta fish that had long resided in the pristine white classical clawfoot tub lies sprawled on the tiled floor, barely alive.

Water from the bathtub flows down the stairs to the first floor. The entire building is soon filled with dampness and restless unease. Among the fish carried along with the current from the bathroom to the ground floor, one fish says: “We did nothing.”

The various animals inhabiting the house each act according to their own motives and thoughts, following their individual desires. These fragmented and seemingly trivial actions accumulate within the same structure, snowballing until they collapse the boundaries between one another.

“According to the testimony of a certain fish,” what unfolds is a series of unconscious repetitions of both “intent” and “negligence” by these animals. Only by entering through the front door and listening to each of their confessions can one unravel the mysterious incident that ultimately emerges.

MIYAGI YUKA, born in 1993 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, primarily works with ceramic sculpture. Her creations often take the forms of animals and traces of life. She moved to Taipei in 2017, and has since developed a series of sculptural works inspired by native Taiwanese species. Her recent solo exhibitions include A Window on a Certain Day (POMA project, 2025), Whisperers (New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, 2025), and A Different Walking Route Than Usual (Congkou Kewco Space, 2025).
