In Sushi Bau’s first solo exhibition at MAISON ACME titled "SUSHIBAU SOLO EXHIBITION", he showcases nearly 20 pieces of works. Through this exhibition, he explores his personal growth and the origins of his identity, as a summary of one phase of his life. The main series of works represents the artist's observation of interpersonal relationships, emotional fluctuations, and internal conflicts. Using "fictional world" as a creative platform for "self-awareness", Sushi Bau seeks to find balance within his inner world, harmonizing with his "self", and documenting the relationships between "him and self, others, society, and art". By dissecting and exploring his roles through internal images, he gradually accepts different aspects of himself, both good and bad, coexisting with these roles. The interactive relationships and changing patterns among similar characters in his artworks create a metaphorical visual narrative, subtly alluding to the psychological states of people in their daily lives.
" 'Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?.' As I grow older, I can no longer hear my own voice clearly. It fades away amidst the vast crowd. Sometimes, I think that person is me, but when I turn around, it isn't. In this period of searching and doubting, I have lost myself in the sea of people. Everyone looks the same, including myself. I am forced to keep moving forward with the crowd, and unable to stop. All I can do is record everything I see before me."
In the summer of 2022, Sushi Bau began to learn to get along with himself through painting. He depicted his feelings about things around him and his relationships with others. They manifested as various characters, forming an endless, vast world that can never be fully recorded. Sometimes, He doesn't even know what the images inside represent. They just appear along with his state of mind. "Who is Sushi Bau?" Perhaps Sushi Bau is never just a specific character but a constantly changing and flowing condition. Perhaps all the characters he has recorded are him. They all look the same—no hair, no gender characteristics, no expressions, no eyeballs—just quietly doing their things."

Sushi Bau (Chi-Hsiu, Lee), born in 1998,
Taipei, Taiwan, holds a master degree in the Department of Communications Design, at Shih Chien University. He specialized in 3D animation design in college, but during his graduate studies, he attempted to work with 2D animation, and sculpture and later focused on "painting" as his main creative medium. Influenced by his training in animation, his works often feature a collage of various events and stories, presenting compositional characteristics with temporal changes and scene transitions. Through the medium of a "fictional world," he records his self-awareness, aiming to untangle the flow of chaotic emotions within himself. Simultaneously, his works metaphorically reflect his observations on his own character.
His works have been exhibited at the 2022 STAART Illustration Art Fair, and the opening exhibition of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute in 2021, "Frozen in Time with
Memories", which was featured in the December 2021 Issue (No. 212) of "LaVie" magazine. One of his animated short film in college was also selected for the 14th Seoul International Senior Film Festival in 2021. In
addition to the current solo exhibition, more of his works will be showcased at the 2023 Young Art Kaohsiung.
